The leadership of Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has come under sharp focus once again, this time over his administration’s chaotic and petty retaliation against Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

In an embarrassing show of desperation, Nairobi County garbage trucks (possibly) acting under orders from Sakaja’s government, stormed KPLC headquarters, Stima Plaza, and dumped heaps of rotting trash at the entrance.

As if that wasn’t enough, county officials went further and clamped KPLC vehicles, all in retaliation after the power company disconnected electricity to county offices over unpaid bills.

Instead of taking responsibility for the county’s massive debts, Sakaja’s team opted for street theatrics that only confirmed what many have long suspected that the governor is completely out of his depth.

His leadership has been one failure after another, and this latest stunt only exposes his incompetence.

Many Nairobians still question how Sakaja even made it to the governor’s office, given his murky academic background.

His so-called degree from Teams University in Uganda remains unverifiable, yet he continues to parade himself as a leader despite lacking any proven qualifications to run a city.

With every passing crisis, it becomes clearer that his leadership is built on deception and public relations stunts rather than actual governance.

The power disconnection by KPLC was a clear sign of Nairobi County’s financial mismanagement, but rather than finding a professional way to resolve the matter, Sakaja’s administration resorted to childish retaliation.

Now, the city is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Business owners and ordinary residents were left wondering, if this is how the county deals with disputes, what hope is there for Nairobi’s future?

Under Sakaja’s watch, the city is rapidly deteriorating. Roads are in a pathetic state, garbage collection is erratic, and traffic congestion has only worsened.

His much-hyped promises of making Nairobi a “green city” have been exposed as empty talk, with nothing to show for it.

Even his own allies are beginning to distance themselves from him, realizing that his leadership is little more than smoke and mirrors.

The KPLC drama is just another reminder that Nairobi is being led by a man whose biggest skill is grandstanding while the city falls into chaos.
