President William Ruto this evening strongly dismissed a section of international media reports claiming that Kenya’s decision to send police to the troubled Haiti was influenced by the US government. Ruto told Biden to ignore the noise from various quarters suggesting that Kenya is being micromanaged by the US regarding the Haiti issue.

Speaking during a joint media presser at the White House, where he reminded the US and the world at large that Kenya is an independent nation, the Head of State clarified that it is the people of Kenya who saw it fit to help the people of Haiti achieve peace and rescue them from the grip of dangerous gangs.

In his speech, President Ruto also informed President Joe Biden that there is no way the US could influence Kenya’s decision to send over 500 police officers to Haiti.

President Ruto stated: “The US cannot commit Kenya to participate in the Haiti mission. I am the President of Kenya, and it is my decision to make. It is the people of Kenya who commit their own troops using their own structures.”

But at home, Standard Digital had earlier reported that protests had erupted in Nakuru town when a group of activists took to the streets to protest against Pres William Ruto and KK administration decision to send over 3000 police officers to Haiti.

According to the group of activists, it doesn’t make any sense for the the Govt to authorise the mission despite the fact that US is just tens of Kilometers away but can’t send its troops to the troubled Haiti.
