Zetech University is facing scrutiny following the tragic death of one of its students, Ryan Kitari, who died by suicide in his apartment on December 11, 2024.

The 21-year-old education student left behind a heartbreaking suicide note and social media posts blaming academic frustrations, financial struggles, and unresolved personal trauma for his decision.

Kitari specifically called out one of his lecturers, Doreen Mwangi, accusing her of jeopardizing his academic progress.

He alleged that Mwangi mishandled his grades and hindered his ability to proceed with his mandatory teaching practice scheduled for January 2025.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Shame on you, lecturer Doreen Mwangi… You jeopardized the only hope I had left. I did everything to keep this semester going despite financial constraints.”

The post also described Mwangi as a controversial figure among students, claiming she had a history of complaints and questioning her suitability as an educator.

Kitari’s public outcry has ignited a firestorm on social media, with calls for Zetech University to investigate the allegations against Mwangi and reassess how it supports struggling students.

Beyond academic frustrations, Kitari revealed he was battling severe financial hardships, which forced him to sell household items to survive.

He also shared his personal trauma, including the emotional scars of being raised by a single mother and enduring molestation as a child.

Despite his struggles, he wrote about putting on a brave face to those around him while feeling overwhelmed by the weight of his challenges.

Kitari’s death has left the Zetech University community shaken, with students demanding accountability and increased mental health support. His body has been taken to Muriranjas Sub-County Hospital morgue for an autopsy as police continue their investigations.
