Interior CS Nominee Kipchumba Murkomen has found himself at the centre of a controversy following claims made by Joyce Waithera Njihia, a woman who alleges mistreatment during the 2022 Kenya Kwanza campaigns.
In a video shared by former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi on X, Waithera tearfully recounted her ordeal, accusing Murkomen of assaulting her at Hustler Plaza, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) headquarters along Ngong Road.
She claims the incident left her with a spinal injury that required hospitalisation at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), leaving her bedridden and without justice to date.
Waithera identified herself as an artist who produced a campaign song for the Kenya Kwanza coalition during the highly charged election period.
However, she alleges that after the campaign season, she was discarded without compensation or recognition for her contribution.
“There is a complaint by Joyce Waithera Njihia against you, Kipchumba Murkomen. Please make reparations,” Havi wrote in his post, tagging Murkomen to bring the issue to his attention.
The allegations have stirred debate, with many Kenyans demanding answers.
Some believe leaders should take care of those who helped them during campaigns, while others are calling for legal action if the claims are true.
Murkomen, who is the Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee, has not yet commented on the accusations.
The claims now raise concerns about how grassroots supporters are treated during political campaigns.
Waithera’s call for justice puts more pressure on Murkomen to respond.
Many are waiting to see if he will address the allegations and take responsibility.
