Whitepath Company Limited is back in the spotlight, and not for anything good. Already on the radar of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) for harassment and privacy violations, this lending company seems to have doubled down on its shady practices.

Borrowers say the company charges an eye-watering 35% interest per week and harasses their contacts with threatening messages the moment they default.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by blogger Cyprian Nyakundi brought more disturbing details to light, where a whistleblower revealed how Whitepath immediately targets a borrower’s contacts with threats as soon as a payment is missed.

“If you miss a payment, they don’t just come after you—they target your family, friends, and even colleagues,” the whistleblower explained.

According to them, the company somehow gains access to borrowers’ contact lists without consent, leaving borrowers humiliated and pressured.

It’s not just annoying—it’s dangerous. Some borrowers say the harassment has pushed them to the brink, leaving them anxious, stressed, and even contemplating suicide.

“The way they go after people is inhumane. They don’t care about your circumstances; they just want their money,” said one borrower.

The ODPC had slapped Whitepath with penalties earlier this year, warning them to clean up their act. But instead of improving, the company seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

Despite fines and warnings, borrowers report the same invasive tactics, with no clear answer as to how Whitepath accesses private contact lists.

Frustration is mounting. Many are calling on authorities to take tougher action and protect borrowers from these predatory practices.

In the meantime, the ODPC is urging anyone affected to report their experiences, as investigations into the company’s murky operations continue.

For now, borrowers are left wondering: how much longer will Whitepath be allowed to operate this way?
