Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reportedly been arrested by the UK Metropolitan Police for allegedly attempting to stash millions of Kenyan shillings abroad.
According to emerging reports, Ndeti and her son, Charles, were nabbed in the United Kingdom while in possession of Ksh 679 million, which is suspected to be proceeds of corruption from Machakos County.
The arrest has triggered widespread speculation and outrage on social media especially X (formerly Twitter) where one of the influencers user posed critical questions: “So, Wavinya Ndeti flew with Ksh 679 million to another country and wanted to deposit it in cash in that country’s bank account? If the story is true, how did she pass the airport without being flagged? Where did she get the money?”
The unconfirmed reports have sent shockwaves across Kenya, with many calling for thorough investigations to ascertain the source of the funds.
Even though both authorities from Kenya and the United Kingdom haven’t responded to the reports, Kenyans on social media especially X have already fumed with demands for her immediate arrest and prosecution growing louder and louder.
Wavinya Ndeti, it won’t be forgotten that she was one of the leading women leaders in Kenya who came out guns blazing to slam The Senate for upholding the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza a few weeks ago. In her message, Wavinya claimed that Kawira was subject of Gender target and that she (Wavinya) never walked with the corrupt.
Those in the know have also allege that Governor Wavinya Ndeti has been using Machakos County resources to enrich herself and the family at large with allegations that her daughter has been studying abroad using County’s scholarship.
