Former Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru is at the center of a controversy after a local pastor accused her of scamming him out of Ksh 664,609 meant to cover her university fees.

Pastor Peter Muriuki Rwagi, a cleric at the ACK Church and partially deaf, claims he lent Waruguru the money to help her clear her fee arrears at Karatina University so she could complete her degree.

But according to him, things took a dramatic turn when Waruguru allegedly refused to pay back the money, despite a court order instructing her to do so.

“She went to the Nanyuki Law Courts and used her influence to have my case file destroyed. Now, I can’t even file a warrant of attachment,” Pastor Rwagi said, visibly frustrated.

In a heartfelt message circulating online, the pastor pleaded for help: “I lent her this money in good faith, believing she would pay it back.

Instead, she’s used her power and connections to suppress my case. I am partially deaf, and all I ask is justice.”

Waruguru, known for her fiery political style, has remained silent on the allegations. Despite facing political setbacks after her fallout with the Kenya Kwanza alliance, she remains influential, particularly as a close ally of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Pastor Rwagi believes she’s leveraging these networks to block his attempts to recover the money.

The story has left many Kenyans talking, with some criticizing the alleged abuse of power while others question how such a scenario could happen in the first place.

“If true, this is unacceptable,” said one resident of Laikipia.

As the pressure builds, the ball is now in Waruguru’s court to clear her name—or face the mounting backlash.
