Barely hours after social media, especially X, was awash with claims and posts by bloggers allied to Ruto’s UDA camp suggesting that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Hon. Raila Odinga should automatically support Wiper Party leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka for his 2027 presidential bid, Energy Cabinet Secretary Hon. Opiyo Wandayi has decisively countered this narrative.

Wandayi emphasized that neither Raila Odinga nor the opposition can be manipulated into any decisions that do not align with their principles.

In his statement, Wandayi clarified that the decision for ODM to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza government was not a result of coercion.

Rather, it was a sincere and deliberate choice made by both the ODM Party and its leader, Raila Odinga, to assist President William Ruto in serving the nation. This collaboration was based on a strategic assessment of the country’s needs, and not due to external pressure.

Adding another layer to his argument, Wandayi employed what appeared to be a reverse psychology tactic aimed at those urging Raila to back Kalonzo in 2027.

He rallied his Nyanza base to support President Ruto’s broad-based government, describing this as a crucial turning point for both the region and the nation.

Wandayi further expressed his deep satisfaction with the current political landscape, highlighting the widespread happiness and support within his community.

“I am overjoyed to see our people’s happiness and their agreement that being in government is beneficial for us all,” he stated, reflecting the positive reception from his constituents.

This visit marked Wandayi’s first return to the region and his home since his appointment as Energy CS. He also praised Raila Odinga’s bold decision to allow ODM members to join President Ruto’s executive, signaling a new chapter of cooperation and unity.
