Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has raised serious concerns about the future of pro-government leaders, especially those from the Mt Kenya region, warning them to prepare for a rough political season. Her remarks came shortly after President William Ruto’s recent visit to Mt Kenya, a visit she acknowledged as important but not enough to calm the growing discomfort among voters. She urged the president to make such visits a regular occurrence, suggesting that he should tour the region every three months.

According to her, these visits are more than just political events they serve as a kind of “payday” for the people. They bring attention, development promises, and also allow both the president and his allies to feel the pulse of the region politically.

Wamuchomba pointed out that the mood in Mt Kenya is changing, and leaders who have been blindly loyal to the president without questioning or standing with the people are now at risk. She criticized lawmakers who supported unpopular policies such as the Finance Bill or those who joined controversial impeachment processes. She said these decisions may haunt them at the ballot box.

Voters, she said, are watching closely and will not hesitate to punish those who they believe have failed them. According to Wamuchomba, being loyal to President Ruto alone is no longer enough to secure political survival.

She emphasized that the president is likely to back candidates in future elections who enjoy strong grassroots support rather than those who have remained close to him for years without solid backing from their communities. She cautioned that any leader who takes the electorate for granted is walking on dangerous ground.

Her comments appear to be a wake-up call to many in the political class who may be too comfortable with their positions. She stated that the coming wave of political change will be unforgiving, and only those who have remained in touch with the people’s struggles will survive.

Wamuchomba’s remarks are a reflection of growing discomfort within the Mt Kenya region, where voters are beginning to question whether their elected leaders are still working in their best interests. Many feel that national politics has overshadowed local needs, and that the voices of ordinary people are being ignored in favor of top-down political loyalty.

Wamuchomba made it clear that the real power lies with the people, not in State House or within party circles. She urged current leaders to return to their roots and reconnect with those who gave them the mandate to lead. She concluded her statement with a strong warning to pro-government MPs, past loyalty will not be enough to save them if they continue to go against the will of the people. As the political temperatures continue to rise, her message is one that many in Ruto’s camp cannot afford to ignore.
