Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has found himself at the centre of a controversy after Northwestern Christian University (NCU) in Florida, USA, disowned the honorary doctorate degree he was recently awarded.

According to blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, the scandal broke out when a Kenyan named Joseph reached out to the university to ask about the legitimacy of the degree.

What followed was a bombshell: NCU confirmed that the degree was fake, and the university has no branches in Kenya.

In an email sent on December 22, Yolanda Rivera, the Registrar at NCU, responded bluntly: “NCU/USA has NO branches in Kenya.  The degree is fake…” She went on to explain that the degree ceremony, which was held at a Kenyan polytechnic, was nothing more than an elaborate ruse.

This raised eyebrows, with many questioning how a degree from a foreign institution could be handed out in Kenya, especially without any involvement from the university.

For those who already had their doubts about Sudi’s academic credentials, this latest scandal has only added fuel to the fire.

The MP has faced criticism before over his qualifications, and now the public is questioning how this degree ever passed as legitimate.

But the story doesn’t stop there. In another email, Rivera revealed that the fake degree scandal has been a thorn in the university’s side for years.

She explained, “It was our Vice President of International Ministries who reported them to Kenyan authorities and furnished them copies of the fake degrees they were issuing, even photos of graduation ceremonies. It took 2-3 years to bring them to justice.”

Turns out, the fraudsters who ran the fake school were operating in both Kenya and Uganda, using NCU’s name and logo to dupe people into thinking they were receiving legitimate qualifications.

The scammers went so far as to offer secular courses, even though NCU is a faith-based institution focused solely on ministry-related studies.

Rivera shared that many of the victims from the fake school have since contacted NCU, with some even enrolling in the university’s legitimate online programs.
