Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, a close ally of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Hon. Raila Odinga, has expressed strong dissatisfaction following President William Ruto’s unexpected cabinet reshuffle.

The reshuffle saw former allies of ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta and several leaders from the Mt. Kenya region appointed to prominent government positions.

Taking to his X handle, Ole Kina questioned the fairness of the reshuffle, insinuating that Kenya appears to belong to only two communities.

Although he did not name specific individuals or elaborate further, his remarks hinted at perceived ethnic favoritism in the new appointments.

The reshuffle, announced this evening, has seen former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, former Health CS and Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo take up influential roles in the government.

Lee Kinyanjui has been appointed to the Ministry of Trade, Ndiritu Muriithi to the Ministry of Agriculture, and Mutahi Kagwe to the Kenya Revenue Authority. Kabogo, on the other hand, will now serve in the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT).

As part of the reshuffle, some of the previous office holders in these positions have been reassigned to serve as ambassadors in various countries.

This move has sparked mixed reactions from political leaders and citizens, with some praising it as a strategic realignment and others criticizing it as exclusionary and politically motivated.

Ledama Ole Kina’s reaction underscores the ongoing debate surrounding ethnic representation and inclusivity in key government appointments.

As the dust settles, questions remain about how these changes will influence Kenya’s political landscape and the administration’s ability to foster national unity.
