Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has issued fresh demands to President William Ruto, calling for urgent government intervention in key issues affecting Kenyans.
Speaking at a funeral service in Kiambu County on Tuesday, March 11, Odinga criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration over high taxation and the inefficiencies in the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Odinga took issue with the rising cost of living and heavy taxation policies, particularly the Housing Levy, which he termed as burdensome to salaried Kenyans.

“I have told Ruto that SHA has a problem; it must be corrected. The taxes being imposed on Kenyans are also high, especially the one on housing,” Raila declared while addressing mourners.
He insisted that these issues could not be resolved from the outside and that engaging with the government was necessary to push for reforms.
The ODM leader also defended his recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ruto, which has drawn criticism from some opposition leaders.
He dismissed claims by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he had betrayed Kenyans by signing the deal, clarifying that the agreement was meant to benefit the country.

“I have heard people saying that I have joined President William Ruto. I want to say that I never approached Ruto; it was Ruto who approached me. My stand remains the same,” Raila affirmed.
He further refuted allegations that the deal was intended to aid Ruto’s reelection in 2027, stating that Kenyans will have the final say on who leads them.
Raila’s remarks come just days after he signed an agreement with Ruto on Friday, March 7, during a high-profile event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The deal seeks to implement key proposals from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, tackle youth unemployment, and enforce the two-thirds gender rule.
Additionally, the two leaders pledged to foster inclusivity in government appointments and uphold integrity in leadership.
Odinga reiterated that his political focus remains on serving the people and advocating for good governance, regardless of his recent engagement with the ruling administration.
