The death of Albert Omondi Ojwang, a teacher and well-known online influencer, has shocked many Kenyans after new information revealed that he did not take his own life as earlier claimed by police. Initial reports from authorities said Ojwang died by suicide while in custody.

However, a postmortem done by a group of pathologists has shown that Ojwang was strangled and violently beaten before he died. This finding has raised serious questions about police conduct and what really happened to him while he was being held.

The autopsy results revealed that Ojwang had severe injuries both inside and outside his body. His nose was broken, his ribs were fractured, and he had serious head injuries.

There were also bruises on his chest and signs that he had been hit with force on his spine and legs. These injuries clearly showed he was attacked and experienced a lot of pain before dying. It was not just a single blow these injuries point to repeated and brutal assault.

Investigators have now backed up the postmortem report with other findings. They reviewed call data records and looked into the exact location where Ojwang was taken after his arrest.

This investigation has now linked six police officers to the case. These officers were the ones who arrested Ojwang and handled his detention.

According to information shared by sources inside the police service via the People Daily, Ojwang was first taken to a central police station, where the initial assault happened. He was later moved to a different station.

At the time of this transfer, it has now been confirmed that Ojwang was still alive. However, more attacks occurred during or after this move, causing major internal bleeding. His chest cavity was found with blood, and his lungs showed signs of strangulation. This proves that he died as a result of being choked and not by suicide as police earlier claimed.

The case has now been taken up by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and other watchdog agencies. These bodies are looking into what appears to be a cover-up by local officers.

Reports already show that the scene of his death was tampered with, and the stories told by the involved officers do not match. There are growing calls for justice from both the public and human rights groups.

Many are now demanding that those responsible for Ojwang’s death be held fully accountable and that there be an end to police brutality and abuse of power. The tragedy has not only taken away a young life but also exposed deep problems in the way some officers operate.
