The owner of the 5 storey building that collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu county has been arrested today morning at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he was trying to flee the country to an unknown location.

According to an update by Inooro FM, the news were confirmed by Kiambu county commissioner Joshua Nkatha.

The building collapsed on an adjacent residential home killing a couple and badly injuring their sister. It had been marked as unfit since it was bent but construction kept on resuming under unclear circumstances.

The arrest comes at a time when the police are still hunting for the owner of a building that collapsed in Ruiru today morning just hours after emergency evacuation of residents yesterday.

The building suddenly developed cracks. The building and construction authorities had only approved one floor but the owner added 4 more thus endangering lives of his tenants and those living in adjacent buildings.
