Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, who had been wanted over the murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, has been arrested in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, following a manhunt by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Sang was arrested along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s Central Business District after detectives acted on intelligence that led them to his location.

He had been on the run as investigators pursued leads in the two murder cases.

According to the DCI, detectives from its headquarters intercepted Sang while he was driving a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number KCM 508L.

At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly attempting to sell the vehicle to raise money for his daily upkeep.

His arrest marks a development in the investigations into the separate killings, which have drawn attention because of the victims’ backgrounds. Mbobu was a prominent Nairobi lawyer, while Mutiso was a doctor.

Sang had remained at large as detectives worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the two murders.

His arrest is expected to help investigators pursue further leads and establish whether other individuals may have played a role in the killings.

Following his arrest, Sang was escorted to Eldoret Police Station for processing as detectives prepared for the next steps ahead of his expected arraignment in court.

Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence gathered in the two cases to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths of the two victims.

The DCI said it remained committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their families, adding that detectives would continue following credible leads until everyone found to have been involved is brought before the courts.

The agency also maintained that no individual should be considered beyond the reach of the law because of their rank, status or affiliation.

The arrest is a key step in the ongoing investigations, although detectives still have to establish the full circumstances of the killings through further inquiries and evidence collection.

Sang is expected to face the next legal procedures as investigators continue working to build their cases. His arrest does not, by itself, establish guilt, which will be determined through the court process.
