Mary Biket, the alleged girlfriend of Wycliffe Oparanya, is celebrating his appointment as Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary, a position that was anything but easy to secure.

Her joy was evident as she took to Facebook, sharing a photo of Oparanya in his new office, confidently engaging in his duties.

However, this milestone comes after a tumultuous period, as Oparanya’s appointment was flagged by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), casting a shadow over his new role.

The EACC’s scrutiny stemmed from allegations of corruption linked to Oparanya’s tenure as Governor of Kakamega between 2017 and 2022. These allegations put his appointment in jeopardy and triggered significant political manoeuvring behind the scenes.

Insiders reveal that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, of which Oparanya is a key member, was on the verge of pulling out of its political alliance with President William Ruto’s administration if Oparanya’s nomination was rejected due to these corruption claims.

Despite the cloud of controversy and political tension, Oparanya’s appointment was eventually confirmed, a victory celebrated by both him and his supporters.

All the same, Mary’s post, which shows Oparanya in a moment of triumph, symbolises not just the beginning of his tenure in the Cooperatives Ministry, but also the culmination of a challenging journey to secure this role.

Their relationship, made public a few months ago, has been in the spotlight, especially in light of these recent events.

The couple’s bond appears resilient, with Mary standing by Oparanya through the thick of political storms. Her social media post serves as a testament to their shared joy and the hard-fought victory that his new role represents.
