Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has detailed how his son, Leslie Muturi, was allegedly abducted by National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers and later released after President William Ruto’s intervention.

In a statement, Muturi narrated how Leslie was kidnapped on June 22, 2024, by armed hooded men along Dennis Pritt Road.

Leslie had been at Alfajiri Lounge with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Marangu Imanyara before deciding to attend a birthday party in Lavington. On the way, the group was intercepted, and Leslie was forced into a Prado and driven off.

“I immediately contacted then-Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Interior PS Raymond Omollo, who assured me they would investigate. However, my calls to DCI Director Mohammed Amin and NIS DG Noordin Haji went unanswered,” Muturi revealed.

A breakthrough came when an NIS officer confidentially informed Muturi that Leslie was being held by their agency. Muturi reached out to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who called Haji. However, Haji denied that Leslie was in NIS custody, leaving Muturi frustrated.

Determined to find answers, Muturi decided to go to State House and personally inform President William Ruto about the situation.

“The President joked about why anyone would arrest young people over Gen Z demonstrations. He said even the sons of other leaders had been involved in similar protests,” Muturi recounted.

Ruto acknowledged that his phone had jammed due to an overload of messages and immediately called Haji. “The President asked Haji if he was holding my son. Haji confirmed and was instructed to release him immediately. He promised Leslie would be freed within an hour,” Muturi stated.

True to the President’s directive, Leslie was released shortly after. While grateful for his son’s safe return, Muturi’s revelations have sparked public concern about the potential misuse of state agencies for personal vendettas.
