In the latest opinion survey on the Nyeri County senatorial race, businessman and philanthropist Nick Mararo has come out on top. The Politrack Africa poll for September 2026 asked people who they would vote for as senator if the election were held today. Mararo secured 22.7 percent of the responses.
He sits ahead of King’ori Wanjohi at 20 percent, followed by Hon. Mutahi Kahiga at 14.5 percent, Vincent Wamae at 14.4 percent, and Kabando wa Kabando at 13.9 percent.
Hon. Priscilla Nyokabi is further back at 8.9 percent, with a small group of undecided voters and others making up the rest.
The poll lists candidates without party labels in this particular survey, though earlier reports have linked Mararo to the Jubilee Party.
This result comes at a time when political activity in Nyeri is picking up. The current senator, Wahome Wamatinga, is widely expected to move to the gubernatorial race, opening the seat for new contenders.
Mararo’s position at the front of this poll reflects growing interest in candidates who bring private-sector experience and community work rather than long political careers alone.
Who Is Nick Mararo
Nick Mararo is known in Nyeri as a city-based entrepreneur and philanthropist. He has built a public profile through direct engagement with local communities, especially young people. Supporters point to his efforts in youth initiatives, including events that bring young people together for activities and discussions about skills, jobs, and business ideas.
One of the more visible efforts associated with him has been community challenges and gatherings that aim to keep young people active and connected.
He has spoken publicly about the importance of voter registration, describing a voter’s card as the political equivalent of money in the economy.
At local events, including fundraisers for churches and community projects, he has encouraged residents particularly the youth to register and take part in shaping the county’s future.
His message often centres on practical issues: creating jobs, supporting small businesses, improving schools and hospitals, and making sure development reaches every part of Nyeri.
A Steady Lead in Recent Surveys
The Politrack survey is one of several that have tracked the race over recent months.
An earlier Swiss Poll International survey in June 2026 also placed Mararo in the lead, then with about 23.8 percent support.
In that poll he was followed closely by Kabando wa Kabando and Duncan Gituanja.
The consistency of Mararo’s position across different surveys suggests his support has held steady even as other candidates have worked to raise their profiles.
Nyeri’s politics can shift with local issues and personal networks. The county has a history of competitive races, and the field remains open. King’ori Wanjohi is close behind in the latest figures, and established names such as Mutahi Kahiga and Kabando wa Kabando still command significant attention.
Undecided voters, though a small share in this poll, could still influence the final outcome closer to election day.
Focus on Residents and Development
Mararo’s public statements emphasise service to ordinary residents. He has pledged to push for better opportunities for young people through skills training and entrepreneurship. He has also spoken about supporting women in business, improving access to education and healthcare, and helping farmers with markets and value addition. Infrastructure roads, water, and basic services features regularly in the issues he raises.
In a county where agriculture remains central to many households, and where many young people seek work beyond the traditional farm economy, these themes appear to connect with voters. His approach is presented as practical rather than purely partisan.
Even when linked to Jubilee Party structures in earlier coverage, the emphasis in local discussions has often been on his personal track record of community involvement.
Nick Mararo holds the lead in the September 2026 Politrack Africa senatorial poll for Nyeri.
His combination of business background, visible community work, and focus on youth and practical development has put him at the front of a competitive field.
Residents of Nyeri will continue to weigh the options as the race develops, but the latest numbers show that Mararo has established a clear presence in the conversation about who will next represent the county in the Senate.
