Nelson Amenya, the whistleblower who exposed the government’s plan to lease Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Indian conglomerate Adani, is facing a lawsuit.

Through his X handle this evening, the outspoken digital activist has maintained that what Adani, Jayesh Saini and his co are doing is trying to chase hot air insisting that crucial evidence indicate that Kenya’s critical sectors are under their mercies and that nothing can change that fact.

His troubles began after he went further to reveal that cartels linked to Adani were planning to invest in Kenya’s Strategic Healthcare Investment Fund (SHIF).

Amenya is being sued by prominent businessman Jayesh Saini and several healthcare firms. The plaintiffs include LifeCare Hospitals, Bliss Healthcare, Medicross Healthcare, and Dinlas Pharma. They accuse Amenya of defaming them in a series of social media posts between August and September 2024.

Amenya, who resides in France, has a large following of around 90,000 on X (formerly Twitter).

His posts, which targeted Saini and his companies, were viewed by thousands of people. The posts accused the businessman of using corrupt practices to dominate Kenya’s healthcare sector.

One of Amenya’s posts claimed that Saini’s hospitals, such as Nairobi West Hospital, deliberately depleted patients’ insurance covers before referring them to government facilities.

He also alleged that Saini was politically protected and linked to President Ruto’s inner circle.

Another post accused Saini of brokering deals between Adani and President Ruto. Amenya called for a boycott of Nairobi West Hospital, alleging the family had close ties to Adani and government officials.

The plaintiffs claim these statements are false, malicious, and meant to damage their reputations. Some of the posts attracted up to 360,000 views, spreading across various social media platforms.

The healthcare firms are seeking a court order declaring Amenya’s statements defamatory. They want him to issue a public apology and retraction. Additionally, they are seeking damages for the harm caused to their businesses.

This lawsuit adds a new chapter to Amenya’s whistleblowing efforts, particularly after his bold revelations about the JKIA deal and alleged healthcare corruption.

But responding to the lawsuit, Nelson Amenya, unmoved and unperturbed, responded by insisting that his allegations remain to be true and there is no way he will be intimidated.

“These allegations look accurate to me. The 1st Plaintiff and his family are health insurance fraudsters using the 2nd to 5th Plaintiffs to perpetuate this crime.
