KNH CEO Evanson Kaimuri is once again on the spot after a horrifying murder inside Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where a male patient was found dead in his bed with his throat slit.

The chilling attack has raised serious security concerns, with many questioning how such a gruesome killing could happen inside the country’s largest referral hospital.

Even more disturbing, KNH’s CCTV cameras were reportedly not working for four days, and yet no one in management seemed to notice.

Under Kaimuri’s leadership, KNH has increasingly become a crime scene rather than a place of healing, with numerous cases of patients’ belongings getting stolen, women being raped, and now outright murder happening inside the wards.

The fatal attack occurred early Friday, February 7, when an unknown intruder gained access to the ward unnoticed, slit the patient’s throat, and left without a trace.

Witnesses in the ward raised the alarm, but it was too late. Police confirmed that an outsider had entered the ward, yet due to the non-functional CCTV cameras, no footage is available to trace the assailant.

This is not the first time KNH has failed to protect its patients. In 2015, Cosmas Mutunga, a procurement manager, was brutally murdered inside Ward 8C.

He was stabbed 42 times, his skull crushed, eyes gouged out, and his leg shattered.

Shockingly, the only witnesses were a cancer patient who couldn’t move and a deaf 12-year-old patient who was unable to communicate.

Despite the public outcry back then, no significant security measures have been implemented since.

Kenyans are now demanding accountability from Kaimuri, questioning how a hospital with a history of deadly attacks still operates with glaring security lapses.

“How do CCTV cameras fail for four days, and no one notices? Either this was planned, or the management is asleep,” one X user posted. Others have lamented that hospitals should be places of healing, not murder scenes.

As police investigate, one thing is clear—Kaimuri has failed to guarantee patient safety, and unless drastic action is taken, KNH will continue to be a death trap.

But Evanson Kamuri, the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), is not new to scandals and controversies.

In May 2024, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) obtained court orders to freeze Ksh.28 million held in two Housing Finance accounts under his name, suspecting these funds were corruptly acquired from the hospital.

The investigation centers around a Ksh.634.5 million corruption scandal at KNH, with allegations pointing towards significant financial misappropriation under Kamuri’s leadership.

Further intensifying the scrutiny, in June 2024, the High Court froze an additional Ksh.48.5 million and six parcels of land belonging to Kamuri for six months, pending the conclusion of the EACC’s investigations.

These assets, located in Nairobi, Kirinyaga, and Kajiado, are believed to be proceeds of corrupt activities linked to the ongoing graft probe.

The court also prohibited Kamuri from selling, charging, or transferring the properties during this period.
