That trouble could be brewing in the camp of President William Ruto, Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Hon Raila Odinga, and Deputy President Hon Rigathi Gachagua is now a matter of wait and see.
This is after Kiambu County Senator Hon Karung’o Wa Thang’wa, an influential Mt. Kenya region MP, came out this evening, guns blazing, to claim that the region got a raw deal in the power-sharing arrangement that saw Raila Odinga’s men, such as Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanya, and James Opiyo Wandayi, join the government.
According to Wa Thang’wa, those who came from Mt. Kenya have no experience at all in dealing with issues of national importance, such as agriculture, education, etc.
Speaking as reported by People Daily Digital, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa distanced himself from remarks made by the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
In a statement on his socials on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Thang’wa revealed that he had not been consulted in the selection of the current Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Andrew Karanja, contrary to Ichung’wah’s statement.
Ichung’wah had remarked that President William Ruto had sought the input of legislators from the Mt. Kenya region on who the ideal candidate for the position should be, stating they agreed on Karanja.
“As an MP representing Kiambu County as their Senator, I want to clarify that I was not consulted in the selection of the new Cabinet Secretary from our county, nor was I invited to participate in that process,” Thang’wa said.
Thang’wa compared ODM Cabinet Secretaries, adding: “It is misleading for the Kikuyu MP to suggest that all Kiambu MPs were involved. If I had been consulted, I would not have proposed the current CS for Agriculture, as I am not familiar with him. (This is not to say he won’t/can’t perform or that they made the right or wrong choice).”
