Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has revealed that he has been battling a serious health condition that kept him away from politics for nearly nine months.
Speaking on Saturday, August 2, Ali said he had been gravely ill, and the situation had been so bad that he almost lost his life. He explained that he chose to step away from the political scene so he could focus entirely on recovery.
For months, people have been asking why he had gone silent, with some claiming that he was avoiding politics or hesitant to pick sides.
However, Ali made it clear that his health had to come first. He said that when one is seriously sick, everything else must take a back seat.
Ali shared that he had undergone three knee surgeries between December 2024 and May 2025.
Two of the surgeries were done in Kenya, and one in India. He said he was not in a condition to speak or act politically during that time, as his focus was fully on healing.
He explained that trying to mix politics and personal health during such a critical period would not have made sense. He added that he has started walking again and is gradually regaining strength, although full recovery will take more time.
He hopes that by December, he will be able to run again and resume his normal activities without any difficulties.
Ali’s health troubles started in late 2024 after he sustained a knee injury during the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games held in Mombasa.
On December 27, 2024, he confirmed the injury and said he had undergone a successful knee surgery. His doctors informed him that his mobility would be limited for at least three months, and he needed to rest.
He then announced that he would suspend all public appearances and political activities until he had fully recovered.
Despite his absence, he assured the people of Nyali that his office would remain functional and services would continue as usual.
In his message, Ali asked for prayers from the public and expressed his hope to come back stronger. He thanked everyone who had stood by him during his most difficult time.
His experience is a reminder of how unpredictable life can be, and how even leaders sometimes have to pause and take care of their health before returning to serve the people.
