Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has spoken out, accusing former Interior CS Kithure Kindiki of trying to destroy his name and isolate him politically in Meru County. In a recent interview on Weru TV, Linturi revealed a moment from December 2024 that he says shows how far Kindiki was willing to go. According to him, he was with President William Ruto when the president called Kindiki to try and calm rising tensions in Meru. What followed, Linturi claims, shocked him.

Linturi said that during the phone call, President Ruto asked Kindiki whether he, Linturi, was part of their political team. But instead of supporting him, Kindiki allegedly told the president that Linturi was the one causing problems in Meru. “Kindiki boldly told the president that I was the one who had destroyed Meru, that I was a bad person,” Linturi said.

“The president asked him to reach out to me as a brother and talk but instead, he was there reporting me.” Linturi believes this was not just a one-time event, but part of a bigger plan to ruin his image and weaken his influence in the region.

Linturi also claimed that earlier that same month, Kindiki had held a meeting at his home with Meru MCAs. During this meeting, Kindiki allegedly told the MCAs to distance themselves from Linturi, accusing him of spreading negative views and fighting the government.

“He told them that I was poisoning them and fighting the government,” Linturi said during the interview. “I’m not lying. Even if Kindiki is listening now, let him hear the truth.”

These statements by Linturi have exposed the deep cracks within the leadership of Meru County. They also reflect the growing internal struggles in the United Democratic Alliance, especially among leaders from the Mount Kenya East region. Linturi said he chose to speak out because for months, he had been wrongly portrayed as the person causing problems in Meru. He said the pressure and the lies had become too much to keep quiet about.

He added that his only goal has always been to support development and unity in Meru. He urged fellow leaders to stop blaming one another and instead focus on working together to improve the lives of the people.

As of now, Kithure Kindiki has not responded publicly to the accusations. However, Linturi’s bold claims are likely to raise further questions about the power struggles happening behind closed doors within the ruling party and in Meru’s political circles.
