Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans for a political resurgence in January 2025, following consultations with Mt. Kenya leaders.

Speaking during a church service in Murang’a, Gachagua blamed his fallout with President William Ruto on betrayal, stating that Ruto’s actions revealed his “true colours.”

“We, the Mt. Kenya people, detest lies and betrayal. Come January, we will chart our new course. This struggle has exposed the president for who he truly is,” said Gachagua, promising a “sane and judicious” return.

Gachagua revealed that he has been in discussions with church leaders, professionals, and businesspeople from the region. He added that the fallout came at the right time, as it avoided future complications had it occurred during Ruto’s second term.

Since his impeachment, Gachagua has remained a vocal critic of the administration, accusing it of bribing MPs to support his removal.

He also opposed the controversial Finance Bill 2024, claiming his stance made him a target.

“The president insisted on doing what is right, but many Kenyans felt otherwise. I was the only dissenting voice in the Cabinet,” he explained.

The former DP further criticised the government’s handling of religious leaders, comparing it to former President Moi’s oppressive era. He urged Ruto to heed clergy concerns, warning of potential political repercussions.

Additionally, Gachagua accused security agencies of harassment, alleging surveillance of his homes in Nairobi and Nyeri. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations dismissed the claims, calling them unfounded.
