The Acting CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), William Sigilali, has revealed new details about the murder of a patient inside the hospital, raising concerns that the crime may have been committed by someone already within the facility.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, Sigilali stated that there was no evidence suggesting an outsider had entered the hospital to commit the crime.

“We actually do not have evidence that anybody walked in and committed the said crime. We know for a fact the patient was murdered in the ward,” he stated.

Sigilali confirmed that the hospital had handed over the case to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigations.

The patient, Mr. Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, had been admitted to Ward 7B, which specializes in neurological conditions, after being referred from St. Mary’s Hospital, Lang’ata. He required total nursing care due to severe muscle weakness.

His condition remained stable until Friday morning, February 7, when nurses found him motionless with a cut wound on his neck and his face covered by a blood-stained sheet. Security and medical personnel were immediately alerted, and the scene was secured.

Sigilali assured the public that KNH is fully cooperating with law enforcement and has heightened security measures across the hospital.

KNH has also set up a 24-hour helpline to provide psychological support to the victim’s family as investigations continue.

That aside, the KNH has in the recent years been trending for wrong reasons. Patients severally report theft, others get raped.
