Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stirred up a storm with a provocative statement on Facebook about the murder of activist Raymond Otieno, whose body was found outside the gate of his rented house in Molo.
Raymond, a well-known figure during last year’s protests against the Finance Bill, had allegedly mobilised youths to storm and burn down the home of Molo MP Kinani Kuria.
The attack, which caused significant destruction, happened at the height of nationwide demonstrations opposing the controversial bill.
In his Facebook post, Babu Owino didn’t mince his words, claiming the identity of Raymond’s killer is no mystery.
“There is no need for the DCI to investigate the gruesome death of Raymond Otieno from Molo constituency since the killer is well known.
“Let the Leader take responsibility for killing this young man. He should be charged for murdering Raymond,” the MP wrote.
His statement has sparked heated discussions, with many seeing it as a direct accusation against a high-ranking individual, though Babu stopped short of naming names.
Reactions from Kenyans have been mixed. Some lauded Babu for his bravery in calling out what they perceive as political impunity, while others criticised him for jumping to conclusions.
“This is not just about Raymond – it’s about all activists who risk their lives fighting for justice,” one commenter noted.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has yet to comment officially on the matter, leaving Kenyans eagerly awaiting answers.
As Raymond’s family and supporters mourn his untimely death, the public is demanding accountability, with many asking whether justice can prevail when accusations fly at such high levels of power.
All the same, it remains to be seen if Molo Member of Parliament Kimani Kuria will be called to record a statement.
