Agnes Kagure has once again positioned herself at the center of Nairobi’s political spotlight as the city’s Embakasi North constituency gears up for the upcoming Kariobangi North ward by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.
The election follows the unfortunate death of the former MCA, Joel Munuve, which left a leadership gap that several political parties are now eager to fill.
Through her Kenya Patriots Party (KPP), Kagure has thrown her full support behind Geoffrey Owino Agutu, widely known as Babaa, a young leader from Kariobangi who embodies her vision of community-focused and integrity-driven leadership.

Kagure, recognized for her hands-on approach to leadership and her focus on social empowerment, has been a constant presence in Nairobi’s grassroots movements.
Her efforts go beyond political ambition, she seeks to mentor and elevate young leaders who might otherwise be ignored by traditional political structures.
Owino’s candidacy represents this ideal. Coming from a modest background, he has spent years working with local groups to address issues such as insecurity, poor infrastructure, and youth unemployment.
Kagure believes his story mirrors that of many Kenyans who aspire to make meaningful change in their communities without relying on political patronage or corruption.
A major milestone in the campaign came when Kagure, alongside former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, received the official IEBC nomination certificate confirming Owino’s candidacy. The event symbolized unity and collaboration across different political experiences, with Sonko’s urban management background complementing Kagure’s reformist approach.
Kagure emphasized that the Kenya Patriots Party would conduct a clean and transparent campaign, rooted in service delivery and people-first values.
She assured residents that their voice would remain the foundation of their campaign, promising to champion issues that directly affect Kariobangi North families.
Earlier, Kagure personally handed Owino the KPP nomination certificate in a public ceremony attended by party officials, including Secretary General Dick Kamau. The open handover was praised as a rare display of political transparency in Kenya’s competitive environment.
During the event, Owino outlined his priorities for the ward improving lighting to enhance security, addressing garbage collection problems, and creating more opportunities for young people to earn a living.
These are challenges that residents face daily, and his agenda aims to provide realistic solutions rather than empty promises.
The campaign officially kicked off at Kariobangi Day Nursery, where Kagure thanked residents for their strong show of support and urged them to unite behind a candidate who represents their struggles and aspirations. She also spoke about breaking barriers that prevent women and youth from accessing leadership, calling on Nairobians to support leaders guided by integrity rather than money or political lineage.
As the by-election draws closer, competition is expected to be stiff, with several major parties likely to field candidates.
However, Kagure’s Kenya Patriots Party has injected new energy into local politics, particularly among younger voters who see in Owino a reflection of their hopes for genuine progress. Beyond this single race, the by-election serves as a preview of the shifting dynamics leading up to the 2027 general elections, where smaller parties like KPP could play a decisive role in shaping Kenya’s political future.
For Kariobangi North, this contest is about continuity and renewal finding a leader who can uphold Munuve’s legacy while steering the ward toward inclusive growth.
Kagure’s mentorship and advocacy have not only boosted Owino’s profile but also reignited optimism among voters seeking accountable and accessible leadership.
