A Nairobi woman, Julie Wanjiru Wahome, who owns Doxtar Consult Limited, has been accused of defrauding a client Ksh 170,000 in a job scam promising employment in Dubai.
According blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, Wahome, an aspiring politician who contested the Nairobi Senatorial seat in 2022, allegedly used her agency to lure job seekers with false assurances of swift job placements.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, narrated her distressing experience.
After being assured the process would take two weeks, she made the payment in full.
However, delays began almost immediately. Weeks turned into months, and her repeated inquiries were met with vague excuses.
“I trusted them because they presented themselves as professional. When the promised timeframe lapsed, I started asking for updates.
“They kept postponing, and when I asked for a refund, they said it would be processed soon. Ten months later, I have nothing to show for it,” the victim said.
Worse still, the agency’s offices have become unreachable, leaving her with no means to follow up.
“I even took a loan to make this payment, and now I am stuck servicing a debt for a service I never received. Their disappearance feels like a betrayal,” she added.
Doxtar Consult Limited, once seemingly legitimate, is now under scrutiny. Critics argue Wahome may have leveraged her political connections to shield herself from accountability.
Notably, Wahome has ties to Moses Kuria, a former Cabinet Secretary now serving as a senior advisor to President Ruto.
Victims of such scams are urging authorities to take swift action. Meanwhile, the public is cautioned to thoroughly vet agencies before engaging in high-stakes transactions.
“I just want my money back and for others to avoid falling into the same trap,” the victim pleaded.
