The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has registered 1,370,930 new voters since the start of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise on March 30, 2026.

In a status update released on Thursday, the commission said it had recorded an increase of 495,429 new voters since its last update on April 9.

A significant number of those registering are young, first-time voters.

The IEBC also reported 92,602 voter transfers and 1,969 changes or updates of voter particulars over the same period, reflecting ongoing adjustments by voters seeking to update their registration details.

“The Commission extends its deepest gratitude to the 1,370,930 Kenyans who have registered as new voters since the commencement of ECVR,” IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said in a statement.

According to data released by the electoral body, Nairobi City County leads in new voter registrations with 150,166 voters. Kiambu County follows with 72,055 new registrations, while Kakamega County recorded 61,797.

Nakuru County registered 57,068 new voters, while Machakos County recorded 47,348, placing them among the top counties in terms of new registrations during the exercise.

The commission said the figures reflect a positive response from Kenyans, particularly young people, who are taking advantage of the ongoing registration drive to participate in the country’s democratic processes.

IEBC noted that the steady increase in numbers indicates growing awareness and engagement among citizens, especially those registering for the first time.

The commission has been encouraging eligible voters to take part in the exercise to ensure their inclusion in the voter register.

The ECVR exercise is part of the commission’s broader efforts to update the voter register and enhance electoral preparedness ahead of future elections.

It provides an opportunity for eligible citizens to register, transfer their voting stations or update their personal details.
