Geoffrey Mosiria accused of chasing clout after jumping into viral video saga

Geoffrey Mosiria became part of a heated public debate after a video went viral showing a young woman who was drunk and behaving in a way that many people found disturbing.

The woman was in the company of a married man, and the situation escalated when the man recorded her without her full awareness and later shared the footage online. The video spread fast, leading to public shame and harsh judgment against the woman. This incident once again raised serious questions about privacy, responsibility, and how society treats men and women differently when mistakes happen.

After the video circulated, Mosiria, a public figure in Nairobi County, stepped in and met the woman.

He later shared a video in which she explained her side of the story. She said she was heavily intoxicated and could not clearly remember what happened. Mosiria strongly condemned the act of recording and sharing the video without consent. He called on the police to arrest the man involved, arguing that the act amounted to a violation of privacy and fell under Kenya’s cybercrime laws.

He also spoke against cyberbullying and public shaming, saying no one deserves to have their worst moment exposed online, especially when families are involved.

However, Mosiria’s involvement did not sit well with everyone. A section of the public accused him of seeking attention rather than justice. Some online users claimed he often inserts himself into sensitive situations to gain views and engagement on social media.

They argued that filming vulnerable people and sharing their stories publicly may add to their pain instead of helping them heal. Critics pointed out that true help does not always need a camera and that quiet support could be more respectful.

They also referenced past cases where Mosiria documented acts of help and questioned whether his actions were driven by concern or content creation.

On the other hand, many people defended Mosiria’s actions. Supporters said he was right to stand against the sharing of private content without consent. They argued that public awareness is sometimes necessary to push authorities to act and to educate people about privacy rights.

They also noted that Mosiria has previously spoken up for victims of assault and injustice, including cases involving both men and women. To them, his approach may be public, but it helps highlight real issues such as online abuse, gender-based violence, and the long-term damage caused by viral shaming.

The incident also sparked a wider conversation about double standards in society. Some people feel that when women behave badly, excuses like alcohol or manipulation are quickly offered, while men in similar situations face harsher judgment or silence.

Others argue that women often suffer more serious consequences from public exposure, including stigma and long-term emotional harm. What remains clear is that both sides played a role in what happened. The woman behaved irresponsibly while drunk, and the man violated her privacy by sharing the video.

True fairness means holding everyone to the same standard. Adults are responsible for their choices, regardless of gender. Justice should look at the full picture and apply the law equally.
