Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing mounting pressure to file a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following allegations of assassination attempts and food poisoning.
During a televised briefing at Karen Hospital, Gachagua claimed his life was endangered during a recent tour in Nyanza and hinted at a separate poisoning attempt in Nyeri.
These alarming accusations have sparked significant public concern.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi took to Twitter, urging the Deputy President to formally report the matter to the authorities.
“Assassination attempts and food poisoning of state officers in modern Kenya are very serious allegations. It can plunge the country into unprecedented civil war and pandemonium uproar,” Amisi warned.
He added, “I urge Gachagua to record a statement and report the matter so that the security agents can decipher the truth to the nation.
Saitoti said it, Ruto said it during the fallout with Uhuru, and now Gachagua. Our nation should never condone or joke around such matters, whether true or not.”
Amisi also cautioned that if such allegations remain unaddressed, similar claims could emerge from other senior officials. ”
We don’t need to wait for Kindiki to start making similar claims when things go sour! Kenya needs a Renaissance,” the legislator remarked.
The Deputy President’s statements come amid heightened political tension, raising fears of potential instability.
There has been no immediate response from the DCI or Interior Ministry regarding the status of Gachagua’s allegations or any ongoing investigation.
This incident evokes past controversies, including similar assassination claims made by former Vice President George Saitoti and President William Ruto during political fallouts, underscoring the seriousness of such matters in Kenya’s political landscape.
