From gold fraud to IEBC? Amadi’s candidacy spells disaster for democracy

Anne Amadi’s gold scam ties make her unfit for IEBC chair. Despite denying involvement, her law firm was linked to Ksh. 89M fraud. With Kenya’s electoral integrity at stake, she must step aside.

Anne Amadi’s bid for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairmanship is a slap in the face of electoral integrity.

While she claims to be the victim of a “malicious attack,” the facts tell a different story. The Ksh. 89 million gold scam case involving Amadi & Associates Advocates her law firm raises serious ethical concerns.

Instead of clearing her name, Amadi is dodging accountability, making her wholly unfit for a position that demands transparency and independence.

Bruton Gold Trading LLC filed a case against Amadi’s law firm, alleging that they illegally obtained millions for gold that was never supplied.

While Amadi insists she left the firm in 2014, the scandal surfaced under her name, and her bank accounts were even frozen. The courts later unfroze them, but this does not erase the fact that her law firm was at the center of fraudulent activities.

Amadi’s defense hinges on technicalities, not innocence. The claim that she was “too busy in the Judiciary” to be involved is weak.

If she had completely severed ties with her firm, why did money linked to the scam flow through its accounts? Public trust in the IEBC is already fragile, and appointing Amadi would only fuel further suspicion.

Kenya’s elections require an IEBC chair who can stand up to political pressure and uphold electoral credibility. Amadi’s track record suggests otherwise.

A person tainted by a financial scandal cannot be expected to manage billions of taxpayer money during elections. How can Kenyans trust her to safeguard votes when she cannot account for millions linked to fraud?

Her dismissive attitude toward the allegations—calling them an “attempt to shake me”—shows arrogance, not accountability. Instead of addressing the controversy, she plays the victim, a tactic often used by public officials facing damning accusations.

If Amadi lands the IEBC chairmanship, it will be a national disgrace. She has failed the test of integrity, and her appointment would compromise Kenya’s electoral credibility.

The country cannot afford another scandal-ridden IEBC leader. Amadi should step aside before she does irreversible damage.
