Activist Francis Gaitho has launched a scathing attack on Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of neglecting the city’s drainage system while engaging in “sideshows.”
His outburst followed a viral video of flooded streets in Nairobi CBD after a brief drizzle, exposing the capital’s poor drainage infrastructure.
Gaitho took to X on January 29, to voice his frustration, claiming that Sakaja has failed to address critical issues affecting residents. In his harsh remarks, he alleged that the governor prioritizes personal indulgences over service delivery.
“Dimples @SakajaJohnson has never done anything on drainage. Kazi is just banging hoodrats akina Gloria Ntazola,” he wrote.
The activist further criticised the city’s deteriorating roads, questioning how a short rain could turn streets into rivers. He urged Nairobi residents to take action against the governor.
“You should be storming his office by tomorrow and burning his motie,” he added.
Gaitho’s comments have sparked heated debates online, with some Nairobians agreeing that drainage issues have long plagued the city. Others, however, condemned his choice of words, arguing that constructive dialogue is more effective than insults.
The video that triggered the uproar showed pedestrians struggling through flooded streets, with some vehicles partially submerged. It reignited calls for accountability, especially after previous promises by Sakaja to fix drainage issues.
As Nairobi heads into the long rainy season, concerns are growing over potential flooding and the lack of preparedness. Whether the governor will respond to Gaitho’s criticism or address the drainage problem remains to be seen.
The development comes just weeks after Johnson Sakaja during an exclusive interview with Citizen TV blamed the National Government for failing to remit money for the repair of roads.
He claimed that the roads that get affected during the rainy season belong to the National Government and not his County Govt.
