What started as a mere difference of ideologies between Central Organization for Trade Union Secretary General Dr. Francis Atwoli and the Director General of Private Security in Kenya Hon. Mohamed Fazul has now escalated to a full-blown war leaving Mr Atwoli exposed to mockery just like a domestic Cat.
According to the report by the media on Monday, it has emerged that Dr. Francis Atwoli has been caught up between a rock and a hard place following the emergence of reports that some powerful individuals in the political arena especially in the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition are after his neck following his decision to quickly cross camp and work with Pres. William Ruto and the KK govt at large.
All the same, For two and a half decades, Mr. Atwoli has been at the forefront of COTU leadership; he assumed the position in 2001. His current term, which began after winning re-election on April 9, 2021, will end in April 2026, marking a total of five five-year terms served. In total, he will have served for a record 25 years!
Credible sources have disclosed the existence of a well-designed scheme to ensure Mr Atwoli does not secure re-election in the union’s forthcoming elections in 2026.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has tables a bill in the senate to introduce term limits for union officials. Oketch is an ODM legislator affiliated with Raila Odinga. Analysts view this as a well calculated move aimed at disarming Atwoli who doesn’t appear to be in good books with the former prime minister currently.
But it remains to be seen how Dr. Francis Atwoli who calls himself a scheme will navigate the landmines ahead of him that could dent his COTU career.
During an interview with Jeff Koinange in Citizen TV show afew days ago, Atwoli maintained that he is going nowhere and that his enemies including Fazul should take it to the nearest bank .
