Former Mathioya MP Francis Njakwe Githiari is now at the center of a serious land fraud scandal after detectives from the DCI Headquarters Land Fraud Investigation Unit arrested him over claims that he conned a couple out of Sh6.4 million in a fake land and housing deal.

The former lawmaker, once trusted to represent the people of Mathioya in Parliament, is accused of using that public trust to lure the couple into a costly agreement involving a parcel of land in Ngong.

According to investigators, Githiari presented himself not only as the owner of the land but also as a contractor who would oversee the construction of a double-storey house on the same property.

The deal appeared attractive and straightforward. The total project, including the land and the house, was valued at Sh40 million, with payments to be made in instalments.

Believing they were dealing with a credible and experienced person, the couple moved quickly and deposited Sh6.4 million into Githiari’s account as part of the agreement.

However, what looked like a dream investment soon turned into a nightmare.

During routine visits to the site, the couple reportedly overheard worrying claims that the land had ownership disputes. Other individuals were said to be fighting for the same property and had even filed a case to establish their ownership rights.

This discovery raised immediate alarm and forced the couple to stop making further payments.

The complaint triggered a full investigation by detectives specializing in land fraud cases. Their findings reportedly uncovered strong evidence showing that Githiari had obtained the money through false pretences. Investigators concluded that the transaction was not as genuine as it had been presented.

A duplicate police file was later submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which reviewed the evidence and approved charges against the former MP. He is now set to face the charge of obtaining money by false pretences under Section 313 of the Penal Code.
