Nairobi Businesswoman Agnes Kagure, in her address at the Agnes Kagure Foundation’s (AKFO) ‘End GBV’ Awareness and Empowerment Dialogue, passionately called for collective action to end gender-based violence (GBV).

Speaking to a diverse audience, Kagure emphasized that GBV is not just an issue for victims but a societal crisis that affects everyone and hampers the progress of communities and nations.

Kagure highlighted that violence against women, men, and children is a violation of our shared humanity and a setback to the development goals many work hard to achieve.

In her speech, she outlined the efforts her foundation has made over the years and announced a renewed commitment to amplifying its initiatives.

The AKFO, she said, will invest more resources and forge stronger collaborations with Community-Based Organizations, Community Health Workers, and other key stakeholders to create lasting solutions for ending GBV.

Turning to the women in the room, Kagure reaffirmed their vital role in families and communities, urging them never to let anyone diminish their worth.

She pledged that AKFO would continue to equip women with the knowledge and support they need to overcome adversity and build better lives.

At the same time, she urged the men present to continue showing their commitment to justice and equality by taking leadership roles in combating GBV.

Kagure stressed that it was only through unity and active participation from both genders that systemic change could be achieved.

She further called for a collective pledge to speak up against violence, support survivors, and empower one another through education and advocacy.

In a personal moment of reflection, Kagure, who was marking her 50th birthday, spoke about the renewed sense of purpose she felt.
