Agnes Kagure has increasingly become a name that Nairobi residents mention when talking about the city’s worsening conditions and their hopes for better leadership.
Many people in the capital say that life in Nairobi could be improved, pointing to constant traffic jams, unreliable garbage collection, and failing public services such as healthcare and water supply.
From matatu stages to office discussions, citizens express frustration and call for leaders who can deliver real change. Kagure, a businesswoman and former candidate for Nairobi governor, has been part of these conversations for years. Her renewed push to help fix the city’s problems has drawn both curiosity and support from residents who feel neglected by those currently in power.
Kagure’s background in business and community work forms the foundation of her political ambition. Although she lost in the 2022 Nairobi governor race, she didn’t disappear from the public scene. Instead, she continued her outreach through the Agnes Kagure Foundation, focusing on projects that support education, health, and small business initiatives.
Her consistency in community engagement has helped her regain visibility. According to a Microtrack poll conducted in September 2025, she would currently attract 26.3 percent of Nairobi’s vote if elections were held, placing her ahead of several other potential candidates. This growing popularity reflects the public’s search for a more grounded and practical leader.

In her recent post on Facebook, Kagure openly criticized the city’s current leadership, stating, “A lot can be said about the current leadership of Nairobi, but one fact remains that the leadership is wanting and needs urgent intervention. This is why I am offering myself to get Nairobi out of this leadership mess. My managerial and leadership experience speaks for itself.”
Her message was accompanied by a video calling for better management and accountability within the city’s administration. She believes that her years in business and her community initiatives have equipped her with the skills to run Nairobi effectively.
Kagure’s proposed focus areas include improving infrastructure, waste management, healthcare, and job creation. She has particularly emphasized giving young people meaningful roles in governance.
In July 2025, she stated that if elected in 2027, she would involve youth in key decision-making processes, calling them “solution bearers.” Her message often revolves around collaboration, stressing that Nairobi’s problems require leaders who value teamwork and prioritize solutions over political slogans.
She spends much of her time meeting community members across the city, listening to their concerns, and gathering ideas for development. Her approach to leadership is based on inclusivity, encouraging unity across different ethnic and social groups. Kagure often shares stories of working with people from diverse backgrounds, promoting peace and shared progress rather than division.
Outside politics, Kagure is known as a mother and family-oriented person, a side she often reflects through her philanthropic work.
Through her foundation, she has provided school materials, supported small-scale traders, and sponsored health-related programs in various neighborhoods.
Her social media presence blends inspiration with advocacy, and she often comments on national issues, mourning losses or celebrating milestones that matter to Kenyans.
If she gets the chance to lead Nairobi, Kagure says her approach will be practical and transparent. She aims to strengthen basic services like public transport and healthcare without making unrealistic promises. Her supporters see her as someone who understands the city’s diversity and struggles, while critics argue that her business experience may not translate smoothly into governance. Still, her rising popularity suggests that many Nairobians are ready to take that chance.
The city’s political landscape continues to shift, but Kagure’s presence is growing stronger. Her call for accountable and people-centered leadership resonates with citizens yearning for change.
