Politics is all about taking risks, but Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula isn’t risking years in the political cold and despite being offered the lucrative National Assembly Speaker position, he has decided to seek re-election.
IEBC has confirmed that the Senator is among the late applicants who filed their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission offices in Bungoma, casting all doubts away that he would concentrate his energies on recapturing his seat and not in campaigning for William Ruto, as was expected.
The outspoken principal was accompanied by Bungoma Gubernatorial candidate Ken Lusaka, who is also the Senate’s current speaker. Wetangula has faced political attacks, with many questioning why he would run for a Senate seat since he is confident that Ruto will win in August.
In an interview with a journalist, the senator expressed his disappointment with reports that his coalition would lose in the August polls, while criticizing Odinga for his lack of respect for the electorates in the western bloc.
Kenya’s general election is ticking away as the clock ticks away. It’s less than 75 days till Kenya’s general election, and the political climate and mood is shifting day by day. Kenyans over the age of 18 who are registered voters would be able to vote for six elected seats, as stipulated by the 2010 constitution.
The presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, women’s representative, Member of Parliament, and Member of the County Assembly seats are among the six elective seats. Kenya Kwanza is led by Deputy President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua and Mathira member of parliament.
Moses Wetang’ula is the acting party leader in Ford Kenya and also among the Kenya Kwanza principals.
If Kenya Kwanza wins the August general election, Musalia Mudavadi who is Wetangula’s best friend is likely to land one of the powerful posts in the government, the Chief Cabinet Secretary and Wetangula would land the speaker’s posts, possibilities that appear far-fetched with Weangula’s new goal-shifting.
