CCTV footage showing the dramatic abduction of advocate Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi has resurfaced, capturing the moment armed men chased him down, assaulted him and forced him into a waiting vehicle outside Kilimani Police Station.
The footage, bearing timestamps from November 1, shows Abdi, an advocate at Abshir & Njagi Advocates, walking along a street before an armed man suddenly emerged and began pursuing him.
In the recording, the lawyer is seen running towards a nearby house in an apparent attempt to escape his pursuer. However, as he struggled to open the gate, the armed man, dressed in black and carrying what appeared to be an AK-47 rifle, caught up with him.
The attacker grabbed Abdi by the neck and pulled him to the ground. Moments later, another man appeared and began kicking the lawyer in the stomach as he struggled to free himself.
Two more armed men carrying rifles subsequently joined the operation. They appeared to monitor the surroundings and position themselves as the assault continued.
The footage further shows the assailants bringing in a black SUV before forcing Abdi into the vehicle. Some of the men had concealed their faces, while others appeared without face coverings.
The attackers reportedly blindfolded the lawyer before placing him inside the vehicle and driving away. Another black car was also seen arriving at the scene, with one of the men entering it before the vehicles sped off.
Information obtained about the incident indicates that two vehicles were used in the operation, identified as a Toyota Prado TX and a double-cab pickup.
Reports surrounding the abduction suggest that it could be connected to a legal case Abdi is handling against several senior police officers. He had reportedly faced various forms of intimidation before the incident.
The assailants are also said to have damaged his vehicle during the operation. The vehicle was subsequently towed to Kilimani Police Station.
Following his disappearance, Abdi’s family raised concerns over his whereabouts and demanded urgent investigations. Their attempts to contact him reportedly proved unsuccessful after his mobile phones remained switched off.
The family has since moved to the Milimani High Court through an urgent application seeking orders compelling security agencies to disclose his whereabouts and produce him before the court.
Among the agencies named in the application are the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), National Police Service (NPS), Counter Terrorism Bureau and Military Intelligence.
The family wants the agencies to account for the lawyer’s whereabouts as concerns continue to grow over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
