In a recent episode of Political Ringside, youth leader Byron Nyakoi opened up about his journey, leadership experience, and his plans to contest for the Ndhiwa parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

The finance graduate said he is ready to move from corporate leadership into active politics, driven by a desire to address challenges that he believes have remained unresolved despite years of leadership in the constituency.

Nyakoi introduced himself as a native of Kanyamos in Ndhiwa and a graduate of the University of Nairobi. He explained that leadership has always been part of his life, noting that he comes from a family with a political background as the great-grandson of a former leader.

During his time at the university, he served as secretary general in the student government and later contested for the student presidency, experiences he says prepared him for the realities of public leadership.

Speaking about campus politics, Nyakoi described it as both exciting and demanding. According to him, student politics shares many similarities with national politics, although it comes with unique challenges.

He explained that university students are highly informed and come from diverse academic fields such as medicine, accounting, engineering, and sciences. Winning their support requires understanding different viewpoints and responding to a wide range of concerns.

He argued that succeeding in such an environment is proof that one can lead effectively at higher levels.

The discussion also focused on leadership and development in Ndhiwa. Nyakoi questioned whether leaders who have held office for long periods have done enough to transform the lives of residents.

He pointed out that some basic issues, including road infrastructure, continue to affect the constituency despite years of representation.

In his view, leaders who have delivered tangible results should not struggle to convince voters because their achievements would speak for themselves.

Addressing concerns that often discourage young people from seeking elective positions, Nyakoi dismissed the belief that large amounts of money are necessary to win elections. He reflected on his student leadership experience, saying he secured leadership positions without significant financial resources. Instead, he focused on remaining accessible to voters and understanding their needs. He encouraged unemployed and aspiring young leaders to build strong relationships with citizens rather than viewing lack of money as an obstacle.

Nyakoi also spoke about the role of technology in modern leadership. He argued that young leaders have a unique advantage because they understand the digital world and emerging technologies.

As members of a generation that has grown up with the internet, social media, and artificial intelligence, young people are better positioned to identify opportunities that can create jobs and improve livelihoods.

He added that access to electricity and internet connectivity should be priorities because they can unlock economic opportunities for communities.

During the conversation, Nyakoi highlighted the growing political awareness among young people across the country. He observed that many youths who once paid little attention to public affairs are now actively discussing issues such as taxation, the cost of living, fuel prices, and government policies.

He credited social media platforms like TikTok and X for helping spread civic education and making information more accessible.

He expressed confidence that this growing awareness will influence voter participation in the 2027 elections. According to him, young people increasingly understand that political decisions affect their daily lives and future opportunities.

As a result, they are becoming more interested in choosing leaders who can address their concerns.

The interview also explored wider political developments in the Nyanza region, including the future of opposition politics and the emergence of a new generation of leaders. Nyakoi maintained that young leaders have an opportunity to challenge traditional political structures by offering fresh ideas and greater accountability.

Throughout the discussion, he presented himself as part of a growing movement seeking generational change in leadership. While acknowledging that challenges such as unemployment and slow development remain significant, he expressed optimism that new leadership approaches can help create opportunities and improve the lives of residents.

His appearance on Political Ringside reflected the increasing determination among young leaders to play a larger role in shaping the future of Ndhiwa and the country as a whole.
