Trust in Naivas takes a hit as shoppers share disturbing food experiences

Shoppers say Naivas has lost its way, accusing the popular retailer of selling stale food, ignoring complaints, and putting profits before customers.

Naivas Supermarket is quickly losing public trust as more and more complaints surface about the safety and quality of its products. What was once seen as a reliable brand is now being accused of endangering the health of Kenyans. The most recent incident involves a customer who bought queen cakes from the Naivas Tilisi branch, only to find them moldy even though the expiry date had not passed.

This is not just a case of bad luck or a one-time problem. It’s part of a growing pattern that points to a serious issue with how Naivas handles food safety and quality control.

Many Kenyans have taken to social media to share their frustrations. From stale bones to expired sausages, complaints are piling up. People are angry because these incidents are happening in different branches and are not being addressed. Customers are not just complaining about the bad food, they are also upset with the way Naivas has been ignoring them. When the customer who bought the moldy queen cakes tried to reach out to Naivas, they got no response. This lack of accountability is only making things worse.

Poor customer service chat with the retailer as shared by Nyakundi.

Cyprian Is Nyakundi highlighted the case of the moldy queen cakes on X. He shared pictures of the spoiled product and screenshots of the customer’s unanswered message to Naivas.

His post triggered even more people to come forward with similar stories. Some said they had bought expired sausages and spoiled chicken, while others reported stale bones being sold as fresh. These are not minor complaints. They show that the problem may be widespread and not limited to a single branch or a bad batch.

It’s shocking that a supermarket as big as Naivas could allow such issues to continue without taking responsibility. Some people have suggested that maybe these incidents are the result of sabotage by competitors.

But even if that were true, it would still mean that Naivas has a serious weakness in its systems. A good supermarket should have strong controls to make sure nothing unsafe ends up on their shelves. The fact that moldy cakes and expired meat can pass through their system shows a dangerous level of negligence.

The health risks from consuming moldy or expired food are real. People can suffer from food poisoning, allergies, and even long-term complications.

These are not risks that any responsible company should ignore. Yet Naivas seems more interested in protecting its image than protecting its customers. Instead of addressing the issues and improving quality control, they are staying silent and hoping the complaints will go away. That kind of arrogance is what drives customers away permanently.
