According to Jim Bonnie’s Facebook post, the heartbreaking story of Ken Arek paints a dark and ugly picture of Eliud Owalo’s leadership and human decency. While Owalo holds a top position in government, serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of performance and delivery management at the Executive Office of the President, his personal actions or lack thereof are now under serious scrutiny. Ken Arek, a loyal supporter and member of Owalo’s team, died after months of neglect, frustration, and hopelessness, all while Owalo ignored repeated pleas for help.

Ken Arek was not just a random supporter. He was a trained procurement professional who offered his services, time, and energy to back Owalo’s political journey. He submitted his CV multiple times and followed instructions to be patient, trusting that his dedication would be rewarded with a job opportunity. But that never came.

Instead, Ken slowly sank into poverty, unable to afford rent. His wife and child were locked out of their home by a landlord, and the family had to relocate to a rural village just to survive. Meanwhile, Owalo flaunted his generosity by donating one million shillings to Gor Mahia, even asking Ken to share the photos online to boost his image. That same Ken had no food, no job, and no shelter.

When Ken’s mother fell seriously ill, he turned to Owalo again this time, not for a job, but for help with medical bills. Owalo didn’t even respond to his calls or messages. The silence was cold and deliberate. While Owalo continues to make speeches about performance and delivery, he couldn’t deliver even basic assistance to someone who had stood by him.

Tragically, Ken died soon after. Just a day before, he had asked a friend for a car to take his sick mother home from hospital. He never showed up to collect it. It was clear from messages he sent to friends that he felt completely abandoned and used.

The situation took an even more sinister turn when a suspicious bank message surfaced, claiming Ken had been paid. The message, which many believe is photoshopped, only shows records from 2023 and raises serious questions about who accessed Ken’s phone and why there are no newer records. This looks like a cover-up, an attempt by Owalo and his team to manipulate public perception and wash their hands clean.

Reports also claim that Owalo summoned the remaining team members to give them specific instructions more evidence that there is an active effort to distort the truth.

This isn’t just a story about political disappointment. It is a human tragedy caused by the actions of a man who had the power to help but chose image over empathy. While Owalo boasts of achievements in government and digital transformation, he failed the simplest test of leadership taking care of those who stood by him. His reputation as a strategy expert rings hollow when you weigh it against the life and death of Ken Arek.

Ken’s team reportedly didn’t receive jobs, except for one individual who had long-standing ties with Owalo. The rest were discarded once their usefulness ran out.

Owalo’s behavior in this matter is not just irresponsible it is morally bankrupt. A man with so much influence could not lift a finger to save a life he helped break. The contrast between his flashy donations and Ken’s suffering is not just disturbing it is unforgivable. If this is what performance and delivery looks like under Owalo, then it’s built on betrayal, neglect, and death.
