Deputy President Kithure Kindiki faced an awkward moment at the Chepsaita Cross Country event yesterday when members of the crowd reportedly walked out as he began addressing them.

According to a post by political commentator Francis Gaitho, the attendees, primarily from the Kalenjin community, seemed unimpressed and started leaving shortly after Kindiki took the stage.

Gaitho alleged that the event, which had been heavily publicised, failed to live up to expectations despite the display of state resources, including helicopters ferrying leaders such as Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

The crowd’s reaction, according to Gaitho, was a clear signal of growing dissatisfaction with the government.

“The time to march to State House and eject him from office is nigh,” Gaitho declared in his post, accusing the government of corruption and lack of public support.

The alleged backlash has raised questions about the unity within President William Ruto’s support base, especially among the Kalenjin community, a key pillar of his political coalition.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, incidents like this could indicate cracks in what was once seen as an unshakable backing.

While neither DP Kindiki nor other government officials have responded to the claims, the incident has sparked intense discussions on social media, with critics and supporters alike debating its implications.

As political observers dissect the fallout, one thing is clear: the road to 2027 will require the administration to address growing concerns among its base if it hopes to maintain its grip on power.
