A man was arrested on Friday in Narok Town for allegedly impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sergeant, following reports from suspicious residents to local authorities.

The suspect had been terrorizing the community while posing as a military officer, leading to heightened vigilance among locals.

Residents living near Total Estate raised alarms about the man’s activities, prompting a police investigation.

One woman who had been living with him for a few days claimed he would leave their home at night for undisclosed locations and sleep throughout the day.

Narok Central Sub-county commander John Momanyi indicated that the woman was likely unaware of the man’s criminal background, stating, “She doesn’t know his origin or his real name.”

During a search of the suspect’s residence, officers uncovered several ID cards belonging to different individuals, as well as uniforms from both the Kenya Airforce and the Kenya Army.

As the suspect did not match any records in KDF databases, police fingerprinted him and sent the data to the National Registration Bureau to uncover his true identity.

Community reports suggested that the suspect might be linked to a criminal gang, which could explain the various military uniforms found in his home.

Commander Momanyi commended the residents for their vigilance and urged landlords to be more cautious when screening potential tenants.

“I call upon landlords to have a database of their tenants, including identification numbers and phone numbers, to help detect criminals living among us,” he said.

Narok Town has been shaken by a series of mysterious murders in recent months, with ten bizarre cases reported in September alone.

Victims bore identical cuts, indicating potential gang involvement.

However, police have arrested key suspects in these murders and have forwarded them to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for prosecution.

The community’s swift action against the impersonator reflects a growing concern for safety in the area.
