President William Ruto has criticized political leaders who have expressed sympathy for doctors amid their ongoing strike.

The head of state challenged these leaders to take action by fulfilling the financial demands of the striking healthcare workers if they truly stood with them.

Speaking during an ongoing state event at KICC grounds, President Ruto emphasized the government’s current inability to meet the doctors’ demands, citing other pressing national concerns.

“We have real issues we want to deal with,” he stated, underscoring the government’s stance on prioritizing other critical matters.

All the same, the President’s remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with a healthcare crisis due to the doctors’ strike that began on March 15. The strike has led to a significant disruption in medical services, affecting thousands of patients nationwide.

“We have a doctors’ challenge,” President Ruto acknowledged, expressing his awareness of the situation.

However, he questioned the sincerity of the leaders supporting the strike, saying, “We have leaders including governors saying ‘We support the doctors’ strike’. Really? If you support their strike then pay the money they are asking for.”

The President’s confrontational approach has sparked a debate on the role of government and local leaders in resolving the impasse. With the strike showing no signs of abating, the President’s call to action puts pressure on sympathizing leaders to step up and contribute to a solution.
