The newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Charles Kahariri and his Vice (VCDF) Gen. John Mugalavai Omenda will earn at least kshs 1.12 Million and Kshs 927,500 respectively starting this month now that Pres. William Ruto has promoted the duo to the highest rank in the military ranks.

The changes that were announced and effected today came barely a week after the immediate and the late CDF Gen. Francis Ogolla alongside 9 other military officers perished in an ill-fated plane crash in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

The investigations to find out what happened have already been commenced and the results will be out before July, according to Pres William Ruto’s promise during Ogolla’s burial in Siaya.

Also in the military changes, Brigadier Paul Otieno, Managing Director for Kenya Shipyards Limited was promoted to Major General and named the commander of Kenya Navy replacing Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a who had served in the position for a month.

Maj Gen Ng’ang’a was moved to the National Defence University and appointed the Vice Chancellor of administration and finance.

Brig Peter Githinji was promoted to Major General and named senior directing staff at the National Defence College.

Brig George Okumu was promoted to Major General and named the Managing Director of Kenya Ordinance Factories Corporation and Food Processing Factory while Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir was appointed the deputy commander of Kenya Air Force.

The military changes caught Kenyans by surprise because many didn’t expect the appointment of Major General Fatuma Ahmed who now becomes the first woman in Kenya to hold the position of a VCDF since Kenya got independence in 1963. She had been at the National Defence College where she was a senior Directing Staff Air.
