Many Kenyans have been thrown into deep discussion after Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai shared an emotional revelation about the late Raila Odinga’s final days.
According to Alai, the former ODM leader and Broad-Based Government partner was emotionally overwhelmed in his last moments due to the ongoing leadership problems in Nairobi.
Alai claimed that Raila’s tireless attempts to save the capital from political confusion and poor governance may have seriously affected his health in the final stages of his life.
In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Alai alleged that Raila once told him during a private meeting that it would be his last engagement regarding the Sakaja issue, suggesting that the frustration had reached its peak. The post has since spread widely across social media, triggering thousands of reactions and comments from Kenyans who recall how passionately Raila spoke about Nairobi’s leadership.
The post, shared through a Facebook link, has now become one of the most discussed political topics online, with many revisiting the emotional side of Baba’s efforts to restore order in the capital.
Those close to Raila had often acknowledged his deep involvement in Nairobi’s politics. He was not just concerned with national issues but also with how the city was managed. His allies say he constantly pushed for transparency and accountability, especially in areas such as waste management, road projects, and service delivery.

However, his attempts were frequently blocked by strong cartels and self-serving politicians who controlled key sectors within the county. This constant friction, Alai hinted, left Raila drained and disappointed, particularly when he saw the city he cared for sinking deeper into disorder.
Political observers believe Alai’s post speaks to the heavy emotional and political load Raila carried. For decades, he was known as the man who refused to give up on reform, even when it meant confronting powerful figures.
In the context of Nairobi, those battles were especially fierce. The city’s complex political structure, combined with corruption and weak governance, made it one of the toughest areas to manage. Raila’s involvement in trying to “save” it from collapse showed his determination but also exposed him to constant frustration.
Governor Sakaja, meanwhile, has continued to defend his administration, saying he remains focused on development and unity. But Alai’s remarks have reignited the debate on whether Sakaja has truly lived up to the expectations of Nairobi residents and whether Raila’s concerns were valid. Many Kenyans have joined the discussion, arguing that the late opposition leader might have been deeply disappointed by the lack of progress in the city he fought so hard to fix.
