Raila Odinga has publicly opposed the inclusion of four ODM members in President William Ruto’s reconstituted cabinet. The announcement follows President Ruto’s decision to integrate Joho, Wandayi, Mbadi, and Oparanya into his administration, a move Odinga claims is not backed by the ODM Party or the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

In a press release issued from Capitol Hill Square, Odinga emphasized that neither ODM nor the coalition has entered into any formal agreement with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). This statement comes after mounting speculation and political tension regarding the realignment of political forces within Kenya’s government.

Odinga highlighted that the ODM Party had anticipated a detailed negotiation process before any form of coalition or collaboration could be established. This negotiation was expected to address several critical issues that ODM had previously raised. These issues, as outlined in the press release, include:

1. Compensation for the families of victims of extra-judicial executions and individuals injured by the state since last year.
2. The release of all persons currently in custody and the termination of all cases related to protests since last year.
3. The prosecution of police officers involved in incidents of shooting to kill or maim protestors.

While extending best wishes to the newly appointed cabinet members, Odinga underscored the necessity for national engagement under conditions that reflect ODM’s foundational principles of democracy, good governance, and social justice.

“These principles shall at all times guide our actions and decisions as we strive for the betterment of our nation,” Odinga stated, reaffirming ODM’s commitment to its core values. He called on all stakeholders to stay committed to the ideals of unity and progress for Kenya’s prosperity.

Odinga’s statement is likely to intensify the political debate surrounding the recent cabinet appointments and the broader question of coalition politics in Kenya. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the reactions from both ODM loyalists and the general public.
