The interview aired on Political Ringside focused on the future of the Jubilee Party and its plans for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Political Ringside, Angel Mbuthia, the National Youth Chairperson of the Jubilee Party, said the party has settled on Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for 2027.

She also addressed the continued leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta within the party and responded to criticism from supporters of the current administration under William Ruto.

Mbuthia explained that Jubilee is at a turning point and must make clear decisions about its direction.

She said Uhuru Kenyatta remains the party leader because delegates have endorsed him during National Delegates Conferences.

According to her, the party constitution allows members to remove a leader if they wish, but this must follow proper procedures such as resolutions and consultations.

She described Uhuru as retired from active politics and said he now plays an advisory role rather than managing daily party operations. She added that he has encouraged young leaders to step forward and take responsibility.

A large part of the discussion centered on Fred Matiang’i. Mbuthia said he is not just a personal project of Uhuru but a candidate supported by young people within the party.

She pointed to his record as a former cabinet secretary, saying he handled difficult assignments and earned the nickname “Mr Fixit” because of his firm approach.

She mentioned reforms in the education sector, including efforts to improve national examination standards and programs aimed at student safety.

According to her, Matiang’i understands how government systems work and can use that knowledge to improve service delivery and guide the country in areas such as technology and development.

Mbuthia contrasted Jubilee’s position with the current government, arguing that many Kenyans feel disappointed. She claimed that the administration under William Ruto has struggled to meet expectations and has not shown enough concern for ordinary citizens.

She also accused the government of trying to weaken opposition parties through court battles and political pressure. Despite this, she said Jubilee has remained united and focused on preparing for the next election.

Youth involvement was another key issue raised during the Political Ringside get down with Angel Mbuthia.

Mbuthia said the 2024 Gen Z protests reflected growing frustration among young people over economic hardship and governance concerns.

She argued that these events showed the need for fresh leadership in 2027. Jubilee, she said, wants to give young people space to run for office and take part in decision making.

The party is also working on strengthening internal democracy through fair nominations and better use of digital platforms.

Mbuthia also spoke about her personal political ambitions, confirming plans to run for Woman Representative in Kiambu County.

She said her focus would be on issues affecting women and youth, including access to sanitary products, stronger oversight of public funds, and protection against gender-based violence.

In her view, Jubilee is preparing early and believes it can win by combining experienced leaders with young voices.
