Nairobi senator and Kenya Kwanza gubernatorial hopeful Johnson Sakaja has turned the axe against Commission for University Education (CUE) chairperson Professor Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha for revoking his Team University degree recognition.

Sakaja has moved to court seeking to compel Professor Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha to unrevoke his degree certificate recognition as well as being subjected to the wrath of the law for allegedly revoking the recognition of his Bachelor of Science in Management degree certificate from Team University without constituting CUE quorum that comprises of five members before making the decision.

“On the 6th of June, 2022, I presented my credentials to Commission for University Education, I presented my degree certificate and transcripts. CUE later conducted as per the convention and law by, National Council for Higher Education and their counterpart in Uganda, who then conducted Team University and the University confirmed that indeed I was their student and I graduated in 2016 as indicated on the degree certificate. They ascertained the validity of my degree” Sakaja said.

“Before making any decision on behalf of Commission for University Education, the chair ought to constitute a committee of five members and the decision has to be made by the constituted committee, but because he under pressure from the state, Professor Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha went ahead to purport to revoke the recognition of my degree certificate from Team University” argued Sakaja.

Sakaja’s city hall path had been thinned after four petitioners lodged cases with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Disputes Resolution Committee that is chaired by Willis Otieno, seeking the commission to bar Sakaja from vying for the gubernatorial seat over degree certificate forgery allegations.

However, the commission’s tribunal quashed the cases citing that it lacks the legal mandate to authenticate or probe into the validity of Sakaja’s degree certificate.

Sakaja had been requested to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices along Kiambu road for grilling.
